Reverse Distributed Pharmaceuticals
Some pharmaceuticals that are no longer usable by a healthcare provider may be products and eligible for return to manufacturers or consolidators for beneficial use. This process is defined by EPA and recognized by the MPCA and metropolitan counties as “reverse distribution”. It potentially applies to all pharmaceuticals, hazardous and non-hazardous. To be eligible for shipment as a product to a reverse distributor, pharmaceuticals must not be apparently or reasonably wastes at the healthcare facility. For more information, see MPCA hazardous waste fact sheet #3.36b, Reverse Distribution of Non-controlled Substance Pharmaceuticals [PDF 48KB].
