Site Visit Story—Nifisk-Advance Avoids
SAC
Story: Nilfisk-Advance,
Inc., a floor cleaning equipment manufacturer in Plymouth,
faced an increase in their sewer service availability charge
(SAC). After notices from the Metropolitan Council Environmental
Services and the City of Plymouth, the company called MnTAP
for ideas on water conservation.
Prevention Tip:
MnTAP engineer Karl DeWahl
visited their facility. He noticed that the non-contact cooling
water from their injection molding process was being sewered.
Karl suggested reducing the overall flow and diverting this
water to the five-stage washer in their paint system.
Results:
Nilfisk-Advance reduced the flow of the non-contact cooling
water. Maintenance staff ran approximately 400 feet of pipe
and installed a three-way valve that now provides the washer
with water as needed.
They successfully reduced the volume of
wastewater discharged into the sanitary sewer. The company
saved $55,800 in sewer and water fees.
