Business Successes
Cutting Defects
Working with a pollution prevention team at the Kemps
plant in Rochester, MnTAP helped reduce waste produced
from misshaped half-gallon ice cream cartons. Implementing
a new hardening process at the plant cut the number
of misshaped half-gallons over 46 percent. The facility
can now run 10 cartons per minute faster on each of
its ice cream lines.
Reducing Solid
Waste
Crenlo, Rochester, wanted to investigate its spray booth
filter use to cut costs and solid waste. A MnTAP intern
worked with the company to modify its procedures for
paint filter change out. Crenlo projects a savings of
$95,600 annually as a result of the interns suggestions.
Reusing Materials
Using MnTAPs Materials Exchange program, Superior
Third Party Logistics, a fulfillment warehouse in St.
Paul, receives 720 cubic feet of packing peanuts and
bubble wrap every two months from EI Microcircuits,
Mankato. Superior Third Party Logistics saves about
$5,000 per year in purchase costs by reusing these packing
materials. EI Microcircuits saves between $800 and
$1,000 per year in disposal costs.
What Our Clients
Say
Hospital commissioners were so impressed with
Catherines (MnTAP health care specialist) on-site
survey and suggestions for reducing waste and pollution,
that word was sent for staff to pursue as many recommendations
as possible.
- Gloria Lothert, Redwood Area Hospital
The MnTAP intern helped
us cut water use and wastewater by researching usage
rates and leaks. I didnt have the time to do the
research because it takes away from day-to-day operations.
Having the intern on-site made implementing the project
much easier.
